Soap making

I have to admit, soap making is one of my most favorite things to do on the Homestead. Yesterday's batch is a basic, unscented lye soap. I have to admit I made a batch of soap last week that totally flopped and I threw away. But I did have two weeks where everything I touched flopped. But life goes on, I pulled myself up by my boot straps and begun again. I couldn't say britches because I wear jumpers most of the time. 😀

Our wells water pump died, so Farmer John went to haul some water home so we can function semi normally.

Please say prayers and send positive energy and thoughts to my daughter in laws Grandmother. She went to the ER and they are testing her now. She needs the love and prayer of many, please.

A pot roast is currently cooking in my crock pot for supper tonight. I will decide what veggies I want later. Next I plan on making a pumpkin spice cake and prepping to decorate a gingerbread house with my granddaughter.

I hope every one is able to accomplish some of their goals they have set for themselves today.

New Goat Barn

This is the side of my goat barn/house that is 3/4s the way done. I am so very happy. Now need to make a small partition in side, so I can next Mackey milking sanction.  Baby steps. We only need a small amount of fencing completed, then my girls can enjoy their new pasture.

I have been busy inside today. My son and granddaughter are coming for a working visit this weekend and my other son is coming over to help Farmer John get a well working. Water is so precious here at times.

I made a batch meatballs today, froze some and now some are cooking in sauce for supper tonight. Sorry no pictures, my computer is only allowing me to upload one at a time. Or maybe I am still computer illiterate. Hahaha

Have a blessed day!

Christmas Preparation

Exterior shot of the back of our cabin. The porch still needs a coat of preservative. Slow but steady progress.

More progress... okay my picture won't load try again in the future.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I almost forgot that most people will be celebrating tomorrow. We had a very nice celebration this past Sunday, except for my cooking failures. They will be corrected by going back to my old fashioned recipes instead of trying out new fangled ones.

One of the rag dolls I made for a granddaughter.

I also made my other granddaughter a rag doll. I crocheted my daughter a lap Afghan, made pumpkin spice soap and hypoallergenic shaving cream. I think I an completed with making things.

Thanksgiving Week

Here on the homestead, we celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday due to work schedules. Next time I bake another Pumpkin Pie I need to bake it a little longer. I am so out of practice with my cooking skills. Pie was good but the center was more like a pumpkin pudding.  It was a beautiful snow flurry day. My goat barn was being worked on by Mr. Farmer and one son. They are doing such nice work.

Mr. Farmer had worked extremely hard over the summer to get my pine tongue and groove wall up. All but one wall is completed and we still have finish work to complete and next year's goal is flooring. We still have sub flooring. I would love to get old barn wood that is 12-18 inch wide for the floors. But that is my dream, we will see what type of wood floors we install next year.

All of our fall piggy sold this year. Thank you to one special gentleman. The pigs we now have are our breeders and our spring butchering pigs. I never thought I would raise my own food when I was young. But life's dreams and goals have changed over the years. Our goal is to be as self sufficient as possible.

This week has been a trying week for my skill set. I have had many failures. From flop batches of soap to not so hot cooking. Life is a journey and I will continue to grow.

I pray everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving!

Homestead Happenings 2016

It has been a busy couple of years. I cannot believe it has been so long. Well first big news is I have 2 beautiful granddaughters. They are my sun shines and bring me such joy. I don't see them as much as I would love to but I sure enjoy when I do.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Reminds me of everything I am so thankful for. We will be celebrating on Sunday, in 2 days. I need to start some cooking today. My son works on Thursday and I will most likely be working also. So all is good with an early celebration.

I have been busy on the homestead. This past week alone I canned cranberry sauce and pineapple jam. Throughout the summer I canned lots of our vegetables for the year.

I have been busy making Cristmas presents and just getting ready for the holidays.

Today's weather is in the 70s and sunny. Tomorrow they are talking snow. Hope I have some Dr. Christopher's antiplague in the refrigerator. I will need to check in a few minutes. It is a great immune booster.
Okay, I am unable to post pictures. So this is the end of the update as I figure out what is going on.
